SNAP-8
Acetyl Octapeptide-3
SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3) is an elongated octapeptide derivative of the hexapeptide Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8), modeled after the N-terminal domain of the synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25). In biochemical research, SNAP-8 is utilized to study targeted modulation of neuromuscular signaling pathways and the inhibition of vesicle docking. By serving as a competitive inhibitor of native SNAP-25, SNAP-8 enables researchers to evaluate the modulation of calcium-dependent neurotransmitter release. In vitro models frequently employ this peptide to examine the mechanics of expression-related muscle contractions and epidermal matrix dynamics.

Mechanism of Action
SNAP-8 functions by competing with native SNAP-25 for position within the ternary SNARE (Soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor Attachment protein Receptor) complex. When SNAP-8 integrates into the complex in place of SNAP-25, the complex cannot effectively mediate the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. This structural disruption reduces calcium-dependent exocytosis of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, leading to a decrease in downstream muscle cell stimulation and attenuation of repetitive mechanical stress in tissue models.
